Hyelin Lee

Biography

Hyelin Lee is a South Korean organist who performs internationally both as a soloist and in chamber music ensembles. Her concert career has taken her beyond Korea and Germany to France, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Slovakia and the Czech Republic.

Her artistic profile is reflected in the diversity of her repertoire. She devotes herself to works from different eras, with a particular focus on tonal differentiation and musical colour. In addition to the traditional repertoire, she premieres works by contemporary composers and performs them regularly, thereby continually deepening her engagement with the music of our time. Furthermore, she is interested in discovering and interpreting lesser-known composers. Collaboration with orchestras, choirs and chamber music ensembles also forms an essential part of her artistic activity.

Her discography includes several recordings: together with other organists, she recorded a CD for hänssler classic featuring organ works by the German composer Christian Fink, recorded on the historic Weigle organ at the Stadtkirche in Stuttgart-Gaisburg. In 2025, she took part in a recording by the chamber choir figure humaine, conducted by Denis Rouger, released by SWR Kultur and Coviello Classics, featuring works by the contemporary French composer Philippe Mazé. The CD includes both choral accompaniment and solo organ works. Following this project, Philippe Mazé dedicated a new organ work to her.

In April 2026, her first solo album, Naïades, was released on the Aeolus label, recorded on the Cavaillé-Coll organ at the pilgrimage basilica of Sainte-Anne-d'Auray in Brittany. The recording combines French late-Romantic organ works with transcriptions of piano pieces by Gabriel Fauré — one of which is her own arrangement.

Hyelin Lee received her first organ lessons from Eunhye Park. She continued her training with Prof. Hee-Sung Kim at Ewha Womans University in Seoul, where she graduated at the top of her year with a degree in organ performance. She then studied with Prof. Helmut Deutsch at the Stuttgart University of Music and Performing Arts, where she completed her Master's degree and her concert examination with distinction. She furthered her training in organ pedagogy and taught students with organ as a secondary subject at the HMDK Stuttgart for several years. She continues to work as an organ teacher to this day.

Since 2020, she has been organist at the Protestant parish of Stuttgart-Untertürkheim, and since 2025 she has also been assistant organist at Ulm Minster.
